Health Care Insurance - Options to Reduce Costs

Thank you to all who attended our Eggs and Answers breakfast.  This meeting's topic was Health Care Cost Management, and our qualified panel included Jean Stroup of Burns and Burns, Ed Hannon of the Clarion Hospital, Eric Hays of Health America, Jim Fawcett of Highmark Blue Shield and Ki Kim of UPMC.

The panelists discussed insurance trends, including the catalysts for steadily increasing premiums and deductibles, as well as ways for employers to encourage wellness.  Some general information was provided regarding the best types of insurance plans for small to mid-sized employers.  Also, cost comparison data was provided by Mr. Hannon which illustrated that hospitals vary significantly in terms of the cost for common admissions. Treatment at the Clarion Hospital costs significantly less than treatment at comparable facilities, sometimes as much as 50% less for the same treatments.  Also, it was unanimously agreed upon that the growing number of uninsured is a major problem that directly and indirectly affects everyone.
